Me and my guys have been tapped to play, what else, a band at a party. In this scene, James Brolin, who is playing a retired attorney, his TV family is throwing him a birthday party.
The scene called for a contemporary New Orleans Style horn band that could march in a conga line. One challenge was that we were being joined by an actor who would play our band leader. One of the instruments needed in the band was a Sousaphone. I convinced the producer, Tom Luce, to place our actor friend on that instrument. It's a little easier to fake tuba fingerings than clarinet or trombone. Plus it was the hardest intrument to find a real musician to play.
The next challenge was to find a Sousaphone. I worked with the Propmaster, Petee. The band, also needed to get a hold of a Marching Bass Drum and Snare for the conga line portion. I, also, supplied a set of Eon's for playback.
From what I understand, the 2 hour pilot is slated to air in the fall of 2007. They are hoping to be picked up for a series. Good Luck!!! The cast and crew were great. I have really enjoyed working with everyone.
The guys to look for in the scene are: Charleton Singleton on Trumpet Jack Dressler on Clarinet John Cobb on Tenor Sax Steve Howard on Bass Drum Eric Gerideau on Trombone and me, Joe Clarke on Drum Set
